Dr. Anna Höstman is a Canadian composer, pianist and educator. She received her BMus and MMus at the University of Victoria, and her DMA from the University of Toronto. She was the owner and director of Cascadia Music Studio in the Corso Italia neighbourhood of Toronto, and began Camas Music Studio in Victoria in 2019.

Anna has a long history of teaching with the Royal Conservatory of Music and was an apprentice RCM theory examiner with the College of Examiners while living in Toronto. Many of her piano and theory students have successfully completed their RCM exams under her mentorship.  Anna has adjudicated for music festivals across Canada, and has served on the board of the Canadian League of Composers.

Anna is a Juno-nominated composer and active in the contemporary classical scene. Her works have been performed widely in Canada by ensembles such as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Glenn Gould New Music Ensemble, and internationally by musicians such as Mira Benjamin and the Brompton String quartet. She was resident composer of the Victoria Symphony from 2005- 2008, during which time she started the Victoria Symphony New Explorations Workshop for young composers. She has also participated in artist residencies at Concordia (Montreal), ArtsIceland in Isafjordur, and on Saltspring Island. Anna has taught undergraduate and graduate level composition at the University of Victoria. (For more information about compositional activities, please click here.)
